PairUp is committed to protecting your privacy. This Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal data when you use the PairUp mobile application and related services. By using PairUp, you agree to the practices described below.

02 — Information We Collect
Information You Provide
Email address (required for account creation); phone number - collected solely to prevent duplicate accounts and maintain platform integrity. We do not use your phone number for marketing or communications; name and username; profile photograph - a real photo of you is required to maintain an active account; sport preferences and skill level; match history and connections with other users; messages or content you submit through the app.
Automatically Collected Information
Device type, operating system, and app version; precise GPS location - collected when you use court discovery features (manageable via device settings); IP address and approximate location for security and fraud prevention; app usage data including features used, session duration, and performance logs (via Firebase Analytics); crash reports and diagnostic data.
Note on location data: Precise GPS data is core to the PairUp service. We do not store your continuous location history - location is used at the time of your request and is not retained beyond what is necessary for that session.
03 — How We Use Your Information
We use your data to: create and manage your account; verify your identity and prevent fraud or abuse; enable court discovery and match creation features; display your profile to other users for match-making purposes; communicate with you about app activity, matches, and updates; send important service notifications; investigate reports of misconduct and enforce our community guidelines; improve app performance and user experience; verify uniqueness of registration and prevent duplicate accounts, and comply with legal and regulatory obligations, including cooperating with law enforcement where required.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
04 — Communications
By signing up, you agree that PairUp may send service-related emails, in-app messages, and push notifications for match activity, court updates, and league events. You can opt out of non-essential communications at any time through your app settings or by contacting support@pairup.pro. You cannot opt out of critical service and security notifications.
05 — Legal Basis for Processing (UK GDPR)
We process your personal data on the following legal bases under UK GDPR Article 6: contractual necessity - to provide the PairUp service you have signed up for; legitimate interests - to prevent duplicate account creation, improve the app, keep users safe, investigate misconduct, retain records for law enforcement cooperation, and prevent fraud; legal obligations - where we are required to process or retain data by law; and consent - where explicitly requested, such as for marketing communications or optional features.
For precise location data, we rely on your in-app consent, which you can withdraw at any time by revoking location permissions in your device settings.
06 — Sharing Your Data
We may share your data with:
- Firebase (Google LLC) - cloud infrastructure, authentication, database, and analytics
- Google Maps Platform (Google LLC) - for court and location discovery features
- Apple Inc. - where you sign in with Apple ID
- Payment processors - only where in-app payments are involved
- Legal and regulatory authorities - where required by law or court order
- Other users - your profile name, photo, sport preferences, and skill level are visible to other PairUp users
All third-party processors are bound by Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) and are required to protect your data and use it only for authorised purposes.
07 — Data Storage & Security
We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encrypted data transmission (TLS/HTTPS), Firebase Security Rules, and restricted internal access on a need-to-know basis. In the event of a data breach likely to result in risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify you and the ICO as required by law.
08 — Data Retention
- Active account data - retained for as long as your account is active.
- Account data after deletion - retained for 2 years following account deletion or last activity.
- Incident and report records - retained for 6 years where a formal report of misconduct has been made.
- Financial transaction records - retained for 7 years in line with UK accounting obligations.
- Analytics and usage data - retained for up to 26 months.
When data is no longer required, it is securely deleted or anonymised.
09 — Your Rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- Access your personal data (Subject Access Request)
- Rectification - request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
- Erasure - request deletion of your data, subject to legal retention obligations
- Restriction - request that we restrict processing in certain circumstances
- Objection - object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Portability - receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
- Withdraw consent - where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time

10 — Children's Privacy
PairUp is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age of 18. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will suspend their account and delete their data promptly.
11 — Third-Party Links
PairUp may contain links to third-party services, including court booking platforms. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those services and encourage you to review their privacy policies separately.
12 — International Data Transfers
Your data may be processed outside the UK, in particular by Google (Firebase and Maps Platform). Where data is transferred outside the UK, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, including: UK-US Data Bridge certification (Google LLC); UK International Data Transfer Agreements (IDTAs) where applicable; and Standard Contractual Clauses approved for use under UK GDPR.
13 — Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified to you via the app or by email before they take effect. Continued use of PairUp after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
