Step-by-step guide

How to join
a league

Five matches. 6 weeks. Your schedule. Your location. PairUp leagues are designed to fit around your life - not the other way around. Get placed in the correct division, meet players at your level, and compete at your own pace over the season.

The Steps

  1. 1

    Open the Leagues tab

Tap the trophy icon in the bottom navigation bar to reach the leagues discovery screen, where you can browse all active leagues in your area.

  2. 2

    Filter by sport & location

Use the filters at the top right to choose your sport and distance. Leagues are run for tennis, padel, and pickleball, across all ratings and levels.

  3. 3

    Browse league details

Tap any league card to see the full breakdown - format, spots remaining, season length (typically 6 weeks), and entry fee.

Skill-based divisions: Every league splits players into divisions by PUR rating, so your matches will always be against people of a similar level. No steamrolling, no getting steamrolled.
  4. 4

    Play 5 matches

Once the league starts, you'll see everyone in your division. Use the in-app chat to message opponents directly, or drop a message in the division group chat - a good place to coordinate, but also just to get to know your fellow players. Arrange matches in-app whenever and wherever suits you both. No fixed schedule, no assigned venues. Aim to complete 5 matches over the season. That's it. One a week is a comfortable pace, but the flexibility is yours.

💡 Tip: Message your division early - everyone's juggling schedules, so the sooner you reach out, the more options you'll have.
  5. 5

Log the result & climb the leaderboard

After each match, you'll get a notification to log the score. Your PUR rating updates, your Rating Accuracy Score increases, and your position on the division leaderboard shifts.

Rating Accuracy Score: Showing up and logging results builds your Rating Accuracy, which is visible to other players on your profile. It's how the community knows you're someone worth playing with.

Point Distribution

Every match earns points toward your leaderboard position:

Match win+3 points
Match loss+1 point
Unfinished match*+1 each
No-show-2 + warning

*An unfinished match is one that was started but not completed (e.g. injury, weather). Both players receive 1 point.

Good to know

What if my opponent doesn't show up?

Report the no-show in the app. It affects their standing, not yours. Repeat no-shows can lead to removal from the league by the organiser.

Can I join more than one league?

Yes - you can be in multiple leagues at once, including across different sports. Each sport has its own PUR rating.

What if my skill level changes mid-season?

Your PUR updates after every match result. You'll stay in your current division until the season ends, then be placed accordingly for the next one.
